Tourist sites and sights around Belfast

Living in Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland Culture

Belfast is the capital and by far the principal city in Northern Ireland and outside the city you'll find quite a range of tourist attractions.
Bangor marina
Carrickfergus, a nice town with a Norman castle, site of William of Orange's landing
Killyleagh, with its castle.
Mount Stewart (near Newtownards), Georgian (?) building and gardens
  Scrabo, the tower overlooking Newtownards
Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, the Folk Museum part has a little townscape and a fair number of country buildings (genuine buildings moved to the site); the Transport Museum has everything from cars to trains and, of course, the Titanic.

Getting around the Belfast area

Belfast doesn't yet have an underground or similar so public transport is limited to buses and taxis and a relatively limited river service along the River Lagan.

The main airport is George Best Airport (BHD) which is within the city limits; for international flights you need Belfast International (BFS) which is near the town of Antrim, some 30 minutes journey from Belfast.

Outside Belfast there's a choice of the railway or country buses. In theory there are taxis but the distances involved make that a rather expensive choice.
